Overview of BIMQ functionality

BIMQ is a cloud-based platform developed especially for supporting information requirement and quality management in projects using Building Information Modeling. With BIMQ, the development and sharing of information requirements is no longer done using endless excel sheets. As a web and database-oriented solution BIMQ supports the creation, use and validation of information requirements for BIM deliverables in a distributed environment.

BIMQ supports the plan-do-check-act cycle of quality management

BIMQ is a platform for all project participants. Each participant such as client representative, asset manager, information (BIM) manager, BIM coordinator or BIM author gets the user rights that are specifically tailored to the project role.

  • at the beginning the client representative (project, asset or information manager) plans the information requirements using the different catalogues for models, elements geometries and properties,

  • then the design teams and BIM authors create the BIM deliverables based on such requirements that had been handed over digitally,

  • thereafter the BIM coordinator at the design team side and the BIM manager at the client side verify the BIM deliverables according to the validation rules that are provided digitally,

  • finally the BIM deliverables are accepted and the whole process can be adjusted by updating the different catalogues to be reused in the next project phase or project reflecting the lessons learnt.

The information requirements, or information needs following EN ISO 19650 are expressed as data requirements on the different data levels within the information container of BIM deliverables:

  • discipline models

  • model elements

  • element geometry,  and

  • element properties.

Those data requirements are flexibly assigned to different project phases and use cases. Therefore the level of information need is specific to time and purpose and avoids a costly overdemand on information to be provided.

BIM provides interfaces to many BIM Tools for authoring and checking

All information requirements created in BIMQ can be securely exported as PDF documents forming part of the Employer’s Information Requirements (EIR) or BIM Execution Plans (BEP). But there is more value in having digital information requirements in a database !

  • BIMQ exports property templates for BIM authoring software, such as Revit, ArchiCAD, Allplan or ProVI, allowing the project participants to use the same definitions in their daily design work,

  • BIMQ creates checking rules for BIM Checker, like Solibri, simplebim, desite MD or BIMcollab ZOOM, from the same digital base to validate the BIM deliverables against the information requirements
